North and west of Lafayette, on the Cajun prairie, the private school map is a parish Catholic school in nearly every town plus a Christian academy or two. Several of the Catholic schools run all the way through grade 12, so a family in Opelousas, Eunice, Ville Platte or Abbeville can stay on one campus from kindergarten to graduation.

* K-12 enrollment on the state's 2025-26 BESE approval list; federal survey enrollment for schools not on that list. "BESE-approved" means the school can accept LA GATOR tuition if it registers in Odyssey for the year. "Not approved" schools can't be paid tuition from the account.

Parish by parish

A K-12 school in most county seats

Opelousas, Eunice, Ville Platte and Abbeville each have a Catholic school that carries students through grade 12, and Grand Coteau has the Academy of the Sacred Heart, which the federal survey records as an all-girls school and as a member of the National Association of Independent Schools. Crowley takes the other route: parish elementary schools feed Notre Dame High School, a grades 9-12 Catholic high school.

STO coverage is strongest out here

11 of the 16 approved schools in these four parishes were on the 2024-25 Tuition Donation Credit list, a much higher share than in Lafayette Parish. For a family at or under 250% of the poverty line, that makes stacking an STO scholarship on top of the $7,626 award a realistic plan at most schools on this page.

The drive to Lafayette

Many families in Scott, Rayne and Carencro already cross parish lines for school, and the account does not care which parish you live in. If no approved school fits within reach, a home-based year built on an online program plus funded tutoring is the other way to use the award; the home-based page explains the registration rule first.
